Think Twice Of Malicious Backdoor Santas

As a child you were told to behave well throughout the year because Santa is watching you. Santa had elves everywhere reporting your every misdeed and good deeds to Santa. Well, Santa is watching you even now. This time its not his elf but Backdoor Santa. Backdoor Santa is watching your every move on the internet.

Trojans are a familiar buzz word we hear of today. It is synonymous to trouble and hence makes Trojan downloader more alarming to most. Ideally, Trojan downloaders create nothing but trouble and once they infect your computers, you will surely be going like crazy looking for a cure. They are serious threats to you computer systems stability and if computer users are not careful, they may find themselves looking at potential general overhaul from Trojan downloaders.

Backdoor Santa opens a trapdoor in your computer and can allow other bad programs to download and install. Such trapdoors are called Trojans. Remember the Trojan horse which hid an army inside? Similar is the behavior of Backdoor Santa. It enters your computer innocently and installs itself. Then the Backdoor Santa creates a security hole in your computer, the trapdoor. Voila! Your computer is no longer safe and your internet activities are open to scrutiny. %$#%%^&^%&^&^^%&^$R%R%^E^%E@@#$%^&_www.computerdays.com&**R&^&R&^RUIUi

So, you have antivirus program. An antivirus program is good against viruses and worms only. It will not remove spyware, adware and other malware (bad programs). Backdoor Santa is not a virus. It is a spyware, a program meant to spy on you. You need an anti-spyware program to get rid of Backdoor Santa.

Backdoor Santa will collect information on which site you visited, which item you clicked, the keywords used by you, any shopping done by you. Do you really want your net activities to be scrutinized by anyone other than yourself? The result is that your search results get programmed to reflect your internet behavior.

You may not directly notice the bias in the results for every keyword you enter on search sites. But visible bias towards your reported activities will be there when you look for it.

Anti-virus programs are not sufficient. While some cannot even trace their presence, even the anti-virus programs we usually have installed may not even help to disinfect or get rid of them since they are programmed for virus problems only.

Backdoor Santa is also a cookie installer. Cookie is a small program saved in your temporary folder to facilitate faster download of web pages and update web pages you visit repeatedly. Backdoor Santa starts downloading and saving third party cookies (cookies belonging to websites other than those visited by you). This again alters the way you surf. Unwanted web pages keep opening for you to view.

With that said, there is no telling if these backdoor threats are already on your computer. But people do not have to wait for them to notice their presence. It should be custom practice for people to take note of these spyware threats by making daily checks which would not really take so much time to do.

Take preventive measure and have a good anti-spyware software installed on your computer protecting you from such bad programs. Anti-spyware program will not just remove Backdoor Santa, it will also prevent Backdoor Santa from downloading again.
